On October 22, 2012, the Manitoba Labour Board certified PSAC as the bargaining agent for all research assistants and student assistants employed at Brandon University. Local 55601 comprises nearly 400 members employed annually by the university.At their first general meeting on December 3, 2012, members elected the bargaining team and executive for PSAC Local 55601. Corey DeGagné, a Brandon University student who was involved in the organizing drive, was elected Local President.

The Prairie Region Council Education Committee has begun the process of developing the 2013 - 2015 Prairies Regional Education plan. We are gathering ideas and input from members across the region in a variety of ways:Membership Survey - open to all PSAC Prairies members. The survey takes about five minutes to complete, and each completed survey will be entered into a draw for a GREAT PRIZE (two prizes awarded in each province). The survey closes November 30 and the draw for prizes will take place December 12.

This conference is a very important training and networking opportunity for labour and community activists.Attendees will receive a crash course in three areas of political necessity: Community organizing; Effective Lobbying; and Election Campaigning. These areas are key to having the labour movement be successful in political endeavours.
