Here is the latest installment of the PSAC Prairie Region’s webinar series!  The panelist for this webinar was Andrew Dolhy, CPE, Ergonomist for the Manitoba Federation of Labour Occupational Health Centre. Andrew detailed some of the common challenges and solutions to providing sound workplace ergonomics while working from home on a temporary basis. Andrew used a variety of interactive formats, such as slides and demonstrations of proper ergonomics using webcams, in an interactive setting.

Due to significant interest in the last webinar, COVID Pandemic and Your H&S Rights at Work, PSAC - Prairies hosted another webinar geared towards union representatives who assist members dealing with workplace issues. Targeted members for this webinar may be Local Executive, Local Stewards, H&S Committee members, Health and Safety Representatives, or National Officers, among others.  In this webinar, we presented the following topics:

After PSAC's request last week on whether the union could get access to some material from CCOHS on telework, mental health and ergonomics at a reduced rate, CCOHS has decided to make some of their products free of charge to help organizations through this crisis. Below is the list of materials now available free of charge.

PSAC has confirmed that all regional conventions are officially postponed. This includes the 8th Triennial Prairie Region Convention scheduled for Regina, Saskatchewan on June 12-14, 2020. No further information is currently available but once more information is available, it will be communicated widely. Also, please note that PSAC Regional Offices remain closed until further notice.  Staff are continuing to answer phones and respond to emails as they work from home.

In order to address many of the concerns in our workplaces with the constantly evolving responses to the COVID-19 pandemic, the PSAC Prairie Region offered an interactive webinar detailing employer responsibilities, and employee options to protect themselves from exposure, most importantly through a worker’s right to refuse dangerous work, by reviewing the legislation for both federally and provincially legislated workplaces. We also reviewed other actions workplaces can take to protect the health and safety of all.
