Our Past
In 1980, the female-dominated Clerical and Regulatory (CR) bargaining unit went on strike for the first time. This strike played a major role in raising issues of concern for women, such as leave for care and nurturing of pre-school-age children, adoption leave and maternity/parental leave. These brave sisters won paid maternity leave and family-leave among other gains and set the stage for future collective bargaining achievements.
Present
Come join the Regina Regional Women’s Committee in hearing from one sister who participated in that strike. Sandra Clarke, she is started her public service career in 1969 with F Division of the RCMP, and is currently an EI overpayment Collections Officer at CRA. She has been part of every public service strike, starting in 1981 when the CRs went out alone, paving the way for women's rights in the federal public service (pay equity, maternity and family related leave became issues soon after). Hear what the workplace was like for women then, and how today’s workplace has evolved.

This is a night of inspiration. Come and join us and meet a strong woman who fought to improve the lives of all women working in the federal public service and beyond. Learn from her examples, so you can set your own!
