Jerad Cooper, Northern Alberta Geographical Representative
Report to the Prairie Region Council
November 2011
Brothers and Sisters,
As I was elected to this position in June of 2011, this report will cover all activities since that time.
In June I participated in a Strike Action to support our Brothers and Sisters who work for Gate Gourmet, the company contracted to prepare meals for Air Canada flights. I spent a few days after work, walking their picket line to support their action to achieve a fair contract for their employees. I also participated in the Edmonton rally to support CUPW once their employer had unfairly locked them out.
I helped build and decorate a float for PSAC Edmonton Office to enter in the Capital Ex Parade, which was a resounding success. Kudos’ to all other PRC members in the Edmonton area, as well the members who came out to help build and ride on the float during the parade. All the feedback I received was very positive for this event and the experience.
I was in attendance for the June PRC conference call shortly after convention and also in attendance for the August PRC meeting. I recently attended and helped facilitate brief segments of the Edmonton Leadership meeting that was just held in mid-October and was able to further increase my network of contacts for Locals in my Geographical area. I provided my contact information and advised them not to hesitate to contact me if they require resources. I will do my best to assist them in any way possible.
I have been making sure that our stewards have the campaign material to take to store owners displaying CFIB membership stickers in their shop windows and as well providing petitions for the Honorable Tony Clement to prevent his planned cuts to Public Services and to encourage him to reverse plans to cut Corporate Income Taxes.
I know that there are a few other items missing, however I cannot recall to my mind the specifics of them at the time of writing this report. I shall endeavor in future to keep a hard copy journal of my activities so this situation can be avoided in the future. I have had a number of serious family related issues in the last few months that have kept me from attending Area Council meetings regularly, for which I send my regrets.
I look forward to the next 2 ½ years on the council and the positive impact that we can all make on the Region.
In Solidarity,
Jerad Cooper
