PRC Regional Women's Committees Rep Nancy Johnson set up a workplace display on December 3 to mark the 25th anniversary of the Montreal Massacre where 14 women were killed because they were women. The horrific attack happened at École Polytechnique in Montreal on December 6, 1989.
Johnson provided employees with commemorative December 6 pins, information on the White Ribbon campaign, history of the date and bios on each of the women. What touched the hearts of the workplace was how young these women were that had their lives taken away.
On December 6, Johnson along with other community activists will participate in the movie screening Polytechnique and participate in a panel discussion. She will share the results from the first ever Canadian survey on domestic violence in the workplace, conducted by the Canadian Labour Congress. She will also discuss how PSAC Regional Women’s Committees are taking a lead role to promote awareness of the issue.
