Young Workers

EIA has inspired many people to get involved in meaningful solidarity with Guatemala. One hundred and three people have participated in the program to build homes for impoverished families in the rural areas of the Guatemalan highlands since 2007. Since the program was founded by former PSAC member Roberto Miranda, 86 homes, 3 community centres and 3 schools have been built.

Over the past few weeks, PSAC has been working hard to connect with union and community members to highlight the most important issues of the federal election campaign.

Eight young workers from across the country participated in PSAC’s first national young worker committee meeting in Ottawa from January 10-11. They spent time creating a three-year plan of action – focusing on ways to make young workers a more prominent and vocal part of our union.

Nearly 40 young workers from across Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba gathered in Regina for the PSAC Prairies Young Workers’ Conference, held September 23-24, 2014.

August 12 is International Youth Day, a day endorsed by the United Nations General Assembly in 1999 in a resolution upon the recommendation by the World Conference of Minsters Responsible for Youth.  This year’s theme is “Youth and Mental Health.”

The PSAC Prairie Region presents the Young Workers' Conference, September 23-24, 2014 in Regina, Saskatchewan.Do young workers need unions? Do unions need young workers? What are the issues facing young workers in my union? What does it mean to be a union activist anyway? How can I get more involved in my union?PSAC Prairies invites young workers, ages 30 and under, to apply to attend the Young Workers’ Conference. This event will bring together 30-40 young workers from across the Prairies for two full days of learning, networking and planning.

Please note we are holding elections for the vacant position of Young worker representative for the Prairie Region Council. The member seeking nomination are not required to have been a 2011 Convention Delegate but the members who nominate and second the nomination must have been a 2011 Convention delegate who self identified as a Young worker member. Young Worker Delegates of the 2011 PSAC Prairie Regional Triennial Convention will elect a Young Worker Representative to serve on the Prairie Regional Council for the remainder of the three-year term.Nominations:

Dozens of young workers recently attended a series of meetings hosted by the PSAC Prairie Region, aimed at bringing young workers together to strategize on the establishment of young workers committees.At the 2012 PSAC National Convention, delegates approved a resolution to create regional young worker committees that would be open to members 30 years of age and under. Young workers submitted this resolution, after identifying the need for a place within the PSAC for young people.
