Conference Objectives for the 2019 PSAC Regional Conference for Racially Visible Members are:
- Working together - by developing strategies to work acorss locals, regions, and components or directly chartered locals to build coalitions and networks for advocacy;
- Increasing membership engagement - broaden the base of activists by recruiting, training and mobilizing new and less engaged racialized members, such as young workers and those from other equity seeking groups,
- into political action, campaigning, bargaining, representation and generally, advocating for workers' and human rights;
- Taking effective political action - identify political priorities for PSAC racialized members and empowering them to advance our goals;
- Contributing to the development of a policy to address systemic racism.
Conference Delegates Racially Visible Members Eligibility
PSAC members in good standing and who self-identify as racially visible may apply to be a delegate to this Conference. The racially visible self-identification for this eligibility will be found on the registration form. Priority will be given to members who are active on racialized workers’ rights in their union, workplace and/or community. The selection of delegates will take into account representation such as geography, Component or Directly Chartered Local, young worker, gender and other equity groups.
Conference Funding for Delegates:
Delegate costs to the 2019 PSAC Prairies Regional Conference for Racially Visible Members will be fully covered as per the PSAC Travel Policy. Costs covered are as follows:
- travel costs, including flights and all ground transportation;
- hotel accommodation costs for those commuting outside of Calgary;
- loss of salary;
- per diem for meals not provided;
- incidental costs for those in travel status;
- family care as per the PSAC Family Care Policy;
- costs related to accessibility and/or accommodation requirements.
Conference Selection of Delegates
Please note there are limited spaces in this conference. Therefore, if you are accepted, it is the expectation that all participants fully participate in ALL conference events and workshops, or your expenses will be adjusted accordingly.
If you are selected as a delegate to this conference, you will be advised by email and/or telephone by Monday, September 30, 2019.
