Apply to attend the CLC Political Action Conference

The Public Service Alliance of Canada is offering Prairie Region members the opportunity to attend the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) Political Action Conference in Toronto, March 22-24, 2013, as part of the PSAC delegation.

This will be the largest conference the CLC has ever organized and the first National Political Action Conference in its history. This exciting conference will offer hands-on workshops and will expose activists to the latest modern tools, tactics, and strategies for effective campaigning.

Two members from the Prairie Region will be fully-funded by the PSAC. Additionally, the Prairie Region will offer a select number of subsidies to offset some of the costs and encourage participation from Locals, Committees, and members at large.

Requirements

  • Members who have been politically active within the PSAC or their community, or those who have a passion for political action and workers rights, are encouraged to apply.
  • Successful applications will be required to document the conference by taking photos and video, if possible, for use on the PSAC Prairie Region website.
  • Attend all scheduled conference events, including the PSAC caucus prior to commencement of conference, and provide a comprehensive report on the conference to be circulated among the Prairie Region Council and Prairie Region committees, with excerpts possibly posted to the PSAC Prairie Region website.
  • May also be required to attend the next Prairie Region Council meeting to reflect, share experiences, and strategize around future political action efforts.

Details

Working with the Canadian Council, the CLC National Political Action Committee, and all the CLC standing committees and working groups, the CLC’s objective is to attract a large and diverse group of the labour movement’s political activists and the next generation of campaigners, organizers, and leaders to this conference. The goal is to have the conference serve as the launching pad for a focused motivational campaign to elevate and advance labour’s issues as vote determining issues, as well as building the next generation of successful union campaigns.

The topics will offer something of value to union locals, labour councils, and national unions alike. A primary goal of this conference is to shape political activists into political organizers so that unions can better utilize their people for their own political work.

Apply Now

If you are interested in being considered for this opportunity, please complete the attached application form. Applications must be received by the office of the REVP by Monday, February 4, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. via e-mail (davisa@psac.com) or fax (204-943-0652). You can also apply online.

All Prairies Locals and Committees are asked to submit the names of members that will be participating in the Conference as we would like to ensure we have an accurate sense of the number of PSAC members in attendance, and are able to invite them to the PSAC caucus. All names submitted will be considered for additional subsidies to help offset costs.

All applications will be kept on file to establish a PSAC political action network and for consideration for future opportunities.
