This year the PSAC Prairie Region will fully fund up to 8 women activists to participate in a new course at the Prairie School for Union Women (PSUW) in Waskesui, Saskatchewan. The course, called "A Journey to Empower Union Women" is described as follows:
Are you a woman with passion and motivation? Do you want to help build a stronger union? Are you interested in taking on more of a leadership role in your union or community? Would you like to know more about tools and skills that can help foster the movement for social change? If you answered YES to any of these questions, this course is for you!
After this course, you will know ...
- more about the challenges facing workers in Canada;
- how to engage other union members in meaningful conversations;
- more about formal and informal leadership opportunities in your union.
You will feel ...
- a connection with other activists;
- motivated to increase women's involvement in their unions;
- more confident about taking on a leadership role within your union.
You will be able to ...
- speak up about issues that are important to working women;
- identify different types of mobilizing tools and when to use them;
- take actions that contribute to women's empowerment.
The PSUW takes place from 3:00 p.m. Sunday June 7 to 12:30 p.m. Thursday June 11, 2015. The PSAC will cover the cost of the registration fee (which includes double occupancy accommodation, school supplies and most meals), transportation, loss of salary, and meals not covered by the registration fee.
Active PSAC women who are interested in attending the PSUW are asked to complete the attached "PSUW Expression of Interest" form and submit it to Judy Shannon, Prairies Regional Education Officer shannoj@psac.com by 4 p.m. MST on Friday May 1st.
There will be a selection process to ensure that the diversity of the PSAC Prairies membership is reflected in the members selected to attend. Preference will be given to women who are active with their PSAC Regional Women's Committees. All applicants will be notified of the selection decision by May 8th so that the necessary leave and travel arrangements can be made.
