Northern Saskatchewan

The Northern Saskatchewan region includes members in Saskatoon, Prince Albert and surrounding areas who serviced out of the Saskatoon Regional Office, responsible for more than 2,300 members.

Due to the ongoing COVID pandemic, the National Board of Directors has passed a motion that all regional conventions be conducted virtually.  The Prairie Region Convention will take place virtually on June 25-27, 2021. The official revised Convention Call will be circulated to all bodies eligible to attend convention (locals, committees, area councils, National Officers, etc.) on December 15, 2020.

This special webinar was an informative hour long session in an interactive format discussing mental health issues in these difficult times. We checked in with participants, explored challenges maintaining proper mental health, and provided tips and resources for those in need. We also has a special guest presenter, Dr. Leigh Quesnel, to tailor the discussion. During these unprecedented times, your REVP and union want your feeback on how we adjust to our new COVID reality. In order to do this, we are asking members to complete an online survey. PSAC Prairies has had some successful new approaches since the start of the pandemic such as the numerous skills training webinars provided in the winter and spring while our respective communities went into lockdown. However, it is important to hear directly from the membership on what your union is doing well and what we could improve on.

RE: National Aboriginal Veterans Day, Remembrance Day Friends, Today I would like to take a moment to acknowledge National Aboriginal Veterans Day, Sunday, November 8, 2020 and Remembrance Day, Wednesday, November 11, 2020. Both are days that encourage Canadians to remember and pay tribute to the people who sacrificed their lives for their country as well as those who fought and survived the often unspeakable horror of war.

Purpose of position As part of the Regional Office Team, the Administrative Assistant provides comprehensive administrative services that enable the Regional Office to fulfill its role in a timely and credible manner.  Under the direction of the Regional Coordinator maintains the administrative aspects of the Regional Office, while carrying out the wide variety of administrative, secretarial and clerical responsibilities to ensure efficient operation of the Regional Office.

It was confirmed this week that graduate student workers at PSAC Local 40004 have ratified a four-year collective agreement with the University of Saskatchewan.  Approved within this collective agreement are the best wage increases for graduate student workers in the country at 1%, 3%, 3%, and 3% over the four year period. Improvements to language on harassment and discrimination were achieved as well as much needed changes to the language around hours of work.
