A newsletter from the Calgary Regional Women's Committee, an independent decision making body that is part of the formal structure of the PSAC and meets regularly to develop projects and activities that promote advancement of women in the union and labour movement.
International Women's Day (IWD), originally called International Working Women's Day, is marked on March 8th every year Celebrate Women’s achievements throughout history and across nations.
International Women's Day has been celebrated for more than 100 years.
For the past several years the IWD planning committee has been working together to host a potluck event honouring Women. This committee consists of women from PSAC, the Calgary Women’s Centre, the Alberta Network of Immigrant Women, Union of Food and Commercial Workers Union and the United Way. Planning begins early in the fall every year so that the Potluck and celebration night are a huge success. This year the event, held at the Kerby Centre was attended by nearly 200 people. Gael MacLeod, Councillor of Ward 4 was the guest speaker and shared with the crowd her perspectives on our theme, Changing the Face of Power. Entertainment included Elbow River who played music and lead the crowd in Bread and Roses. In addition, the Raging Grannies performed two hit songs written just for the event.

Knitting Circle
The Circle aims to teach new skills and promote growth while benefiting a charity in your area. Bring any knitting / crocheting / needle point supplies you might have and join us for our knitting circle. Don't have supplies? Don't worry! Come anyway! Beginners and experts alike are welcome.
