Clint Wirth PRC Report (Oct. 2013)

Clint Wirth
SE Manitoba Rep
Prairie Region Council October 2013

During the period since my last report, the vast majority of my work on behalf of the PRC has revolved around my Health and Safety committee portfolio. I have also taken on additional roles within the MFL, and at a local level.

In May, I had the opportunity to attend the Winnipeg workshop “H&S in the PSAC Workplace”. Being a relatively new workshop that is being developed in the region, it was a great opportunity to see the development of new workshops, and also be involved with a workshop on a different level. Working with Bruce Campbell, Regional Representative, he was able to share much information on how workshops are developed, and the process that goes in the plan. It was also an excellent opportunity to network with active members in my geographic region, introduce myself to those who I have not previously met, to hear their opinions, and share experiences.

In August, I had the opportunity to present at the Manitoba legislature on Bill 31. From the documentation from Bruce Campbell, I presented the PSAC opinion on the Bill, which had to do with changes to the Manitoba Safety and Health Act. I presented to the committee members the need to increase and make education mandatory, reevaluate the employers’ right to determine competency, doing more to prevent claim suppression, and for the basic rights of an employee to be firmly entrenched and clear within the Act.

I have also been in attendance on most conference calls since my last report.

In Solidarity,

Clint Wirth
