David Pearson, Lethbridge Area Council Representative
Report to the Prairie Region Council
November 2011
Since my last report, myself, representing PSAC, other local unions in Lethbridge and along with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers lobby our local MP on the errors of their propose return to work legislation. In my sense, my MP did not understand the importance and the fundamental right of collective bargaining to labour. This is where we as Unionist must educate the public.
I have attended the local Labour Council meetings when able, and this year, it is the Alberta Federation of Labour 100 anniversary. Our Area Council is on the local organizing committee.
I attend the August PRC meeting and the Leadership Seminar in Calgary in October. I committed that both my local and Lethbridge Area Council in fulfilling two activities for defending public service. We are in the planning stages of those activities.
This summer I was busy with the food bank garden project and I am please to report that we produce just over 3800lbs of carrots, swiss card, lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, egg plants, peas and beans. The garden group has started planning for next year. One of the projects which the Area Council began was tools for schools, although it started late, they were still able to provide over $1700 of school supplies all within three weeks. The organizers have plans to expand it for next year. I also attend the local Take Back the Night as an ally in September.
Our Area Council just had our elections, and I am please to report that Greg Krokosh was re-elected as president, Lorna Selinger was re-elected as vice-president and myself as secretary/treasurer.
Respectfully submitted
David Pearson
