The goal of the Advanced Duty to Accommodate course is to provide you with the tools and information needed to effectively represent members requiring accommodation in the workplace. During this in depth two day session, you will learn to apply the legal definition of discrimination and accommodation, identify proactive accommodation measures for the workplace, and navigate different processes involving accommodation including disability benefits, return to work plans, Workers’ Compensation and injury on duty and health and safety provisions). You will also learn to effectively deal with challenges and key issues related to accommodation including mental health concerns, multiple disabilities and harassment, along with the various recourse mechanisms available to you.
This in depth three-day course is an advanced session for union representatives who already have training and/or experience representing members with disabilities and on the duty to accommodate and who have received some union training (or equivalent experience) directly related to representation (i.e. grievance handling course, steward training, etc.).
Pre-requisite training and/or experience will be a key factor in determining acceptance to this course. Please note that this is a re-scheduled course from the fall of 2013.
