The Stewards Mini-Schools will be offered to local stewards this fall to incorporate all of the introductory modules listed below. These workshops are designed to be taken individually, so you do not have to take mini-school #1 to take mini-school #2, however all of these workshops will be of great benefit to you as a steward and will only allow you to expand your abilities to represent your members.

Saturday December 3, 2016 from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm 

Grievances: An Overview

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this module, participants will be able to:

  • Identify what a grievance is and the types of grievances
  • Understand the roles in the grievance process
  • Understand how PSAC represents grievances
  • Understand some of the challenges inherent in the grievance process

Human Rights in the Workplace

Learning Objectives:

  • To understand the definition of human rights, discrimination, and harassment
  • To understand the importance of defending and advancing human rights issues in the workplace
  • To understand a union representative’s role in advancing human rights in the workplace
  • To examine available tools, recourses and resources for defending and advocating for human rights in the workplace

Facing Management

Learning Objectives:

  • To understand that when meeting with management you are equals
  • To development your knowledge, skills and confidence to effectively consult with management
  • To be able to effectively address issues in the workplace on behalf of members
