President’s Report
PSAC Saskatoon Area Council President's Repot
AGM October 3, 2017
We participated in the Day of Mourning sponsored by the Saskatoon and District Labour Council. It is sobering to hear of the number of people who have lost their lives due to their work and how young some of them are. I'm always shocked by the number of people that died related to asbestos exposure.
As PSAC is still boycotting Public Service week because of our treatment by the employer, we partnered with the UTE local to hold a lunchtime event. We handed out Arby's sandwiches and information. It was nice of the United Church next door to allow us space on their lawn.
We also marched in the Pride Parade again this year and handed out lollypops and rainbow stickers and flags. The parade seems to get bigger every year and the pace seems faster - or maybe we're just getting older. It would be nice to have a float next year. Perhaps we could partner with other unions to have one big presence.
We participated in the Labour Day BBQ in the park. It was a lovely but windy day and I think it was the biggest crowd I've seen yet. We gave out helium balloons and Frisbees. It is great to have the tent/gazebo. I think it was an excellent purchase by the PRC.
In Solidarity, Jackie Nettleton
