This one day event is free and open to all PSAC members and members of other bargaining agents; and their corresponding managers. Manager approval is required to attend. Refreshments and lunch will be provided.
This workshop is designed to enhance your understanding of what a collective agreement is, what it contains and how to interpret it. Please bring your collective agreement.
During the workshop, you will be introduced to and practice using an easy, four-step approach to collective agreement interpretation. You will also learn how to interpret and apply the collective agreement to actual workplace situations using previously adjudicated cases. Deconstructing actual cases strengthens the ability to solve problems through analysis and discussion.
Objectives:
- To promote ongoing self-directed learning on understanding, interpreting and apply the agreement
- To enhance the problem solving capacity of those at the employee-supervisor and union-management levels on issues covered by the collective agreement
- To promote consistency of application of Public Service Alliance-Treasury Board of Canadaagreements across the public service.

This one day event is free and open to all PSAC members and members of other bargaining agents; and their corresponding managers. Manager approval is required to attend. Refreshments and lunch will be provided
The purpose of the workshop is to familiarize employees and managers with the meaning of duty to accommodate, the legal framework as well as the benefits of inclusive workplaces for all employees working in the public service. The workshop has been designed to develop a common understanding of what the roles and responsibilities are of the individual employee, managers and the union.
Workshop Objectives
- to familiarize participants with the meaning and purpose of workplace accommodation;
- to examine the myths and realities associated with workplace accommodation;
- to promote a common understanding of the legal framework by all parties (employees/union/management);
- to define Duty to Accommodate as it pertains to the prohibited grounds under the Canadian Human Rights Act, the Employment Equity Act, case law and other relevant legislation;
- to help participants understand the respective roles and responsibilities of the parties in the application of workplace accommodation;
- to apply the learning to situations/scenarios in which duty to accommodate is required;
- to develop an appreciation of how everyone benefits from inclusive workplaces.
