The Lethbridge & District Labour Council (LDLC) held the annual Labour Day BBQ on a sunny Saturday, attended by over 300 people. Hamburgers, hotdogs, popcorn, sno-cones and water were among the items served. Various children's activities were also offered. The local CTV affiliate interviewed LDLC President Rick Merrick and posted the event on social media.
The BBQ was held with support from members representing the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW), United Steelworkers (USW), Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC), Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW), The Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada (PIPSC), and Lethbridge NDP.
In Calgary, the Calgary District Labour Council (CDLC) hosted the Labour Day BBQ at the Olympic Plaza in downtown Calgary. The Calgary Human Rights Committee (HRC) and Area Council contributed towards the burger and hot dogs served to the public. They also set up a booth where the pubic could spin the "Wheel of Information" and answer a question to win a price.
Members in Saskatoon helped cook and serve food at the Saskatoon Labour Day BBQ. PSAC had a table with members handing out balloons, temporary tattoos, and Idle No More posters, all of which were well received by attendees.
In Winnipeg, hundreds took to the street for the annual Labour Day march to celebrate workers. The march ended with a family picnic hosted by the Winnipeg Labour Council. Representatives from several unions, including PSAC, CUPE, MGEU and UFCW participated.
