Employees at the Regina Ramada Hotel, members of UNITE HERE Local 41, have been on strike since Monday, June 4, 2012 after efforts to negotiate a reasonable agreement were unsuccessful.
Sister Marianne Hladun, Regional Executive Vice-President for the PSAC Prairie Region, wrote a letter to Terry Groff, General Manager at the Regina Ramada Hotel, days before the strike urging him to return to the bargaining table with a fair and equitable offer for these workers.
"We value our relationship with the Regina Ramada Hotel, but, for the time being, we are asking all members coming into town to not stay at your facility until you reach an agreement," she wrote. "Should strike action occur, our members would not cross the picket line."
The Saskatchewan Federation of Labour, and other affiliated unions, have also demonstrated their support for the striking workers.
"Your employees deserve to be treated with dignity and respect and they deserve to share in the economic prosperity of your company and of our province by receiving a fair and reasonable wage and benefits increase," wrote SFL President Larry Hubich in a letter addressed to Groff.
Hubich stated that in a time of unprecedented economic growth, "it is unacceptable that your workers should be expected to acceptwage increases below the cost of living, and below what is being paid in other sectors of our economy."
All PSAC members are asked to avoid staying at the Regina Ramada Hotel or using their facilities until a fair agreement has been reached for workers.
Messages of solidarity and support can be e-mailed to Local President Garry Whalen. Messages or strike fund donations may also be mailed to:
