Thanks to the Sisters for electing me as their RWC rep, I look forward to meeting with all the Chairs and their committees. I am committed to improving communications, sharing knowledge and building a strong working relationship with all the PRC members.
In July the five PSAC RWC reps attended the Women’s World Congress in Ottawa. It was a great opportunity to meet with my Union sisters and Women’s Program officer Andree Cote. The week was very interesting and we met and conversed on various issues that affect women from around the world. The panel discussions and workshops were insightful and empowering. The contact made with the PSAC sisters was wonderful as we were able to share our best practices and ideas for a strong women’s program.
I have met with the Winnipeg and Regina RWC chairs and their committees. I felt that both meetings were essential so that I could introduce myself and ask the sisters what they see my role as their Rep on PRC and how I can assist them on issues that they would like me to bring forward to PRC. Communications was the key element of both meetings. Plans are under way to meet with the Prince Albert RWC later this fall and
I plan to meet with the Alberta RWC’s during one of our PRC meetings but will contact them by phone as well. I will be working with Robyn to arrange regular meetings with the RWC chairs.
Many sisters participated in a variety of community events such as Summer Snack programs, Labour Day BBQ’s, Sisters in Spirits vigils, Habitat for Humanity Builds, Tools for Schools, Penny drives, Take Back the Night, Civil and Provincial elections and planning for December 6th events. We have very active members in the Prairies and I am so proud of the work that we do.
I was unable to attend the local SIS vigils but did attend three events in Vancouver and I was approached by Elder Deanna George who wanted to thank me for attending and thank PSAC for all the work and support of our members. We went for coffee after the event and I gave her a PSAC pin and a copy of the PSAC’s “It’s about Time” video.
PSAC was well represented at the Saskatoon’s Take Back the Night event as I was grand marshal with the assistance of Marianne. The event had over 350 participants and was a huge success. PSAC Staff, Heather Longstaff was also in attendance and provided all the flags for the event. Thanks Marianne and Heather.
Look forward to meeting with the members at the upcoming Leadership forum in Saskatoon, and to promote the work of the PRC.
