Orange Shirt Day 2018

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

PSAC has many Indigenous members and values meaningful reconciliation with Canada’s Indigenous peoples. At the 2018 PSAC National Triennial Convention, delegates voted in favour of ongoing Indigenous awareness training on the legacy and impact of residential schools, the 60’s scoop and 150 years of assimilation policy. The resolution, which was passed unanimously, also supported the Truth and Reconciliation’s Commission’s Call to Action #57 that calls for education on the history of Indigenous peoples.

On behalf of PSAC Prairies, we ask that you join us by participating on Orange Shirt Day on Sunday, September 30 to commemorate the Every Child Matters campaign. Orange Shirt Day recognizes the trauma inflicted by the residential schools and recommits our union to support for national reconciliation with Indigenous peoples. Because 2018 Orange Shirt Day falls on Sunday, you are welcome to organize your events for a nearby date that suits your community.

Please send pictures of yourself and your friends/families/co-workers wearing orange shirts to linnert@psac.com. Please include a brief description and identification, if so desired.
