  1. Call to Order: Sister Kim called the meeting to order at 5:35

  2. Approval of Agenda: Approved

  3. Approval of previous meeting minutes: November 15th, February 11th approved via email. Changes to the December AGM minutes were noted. Nina made those changes online immediately following the meeting.

  4. Reports:

    4.1    Chairperson’s 2018 Report: Past Chair, Patty Jessome, highlighted the successes of 2018. The report can be viewed with these minutes.

4.2    Treasurer’s 2018 Report: Charmaine reported the following to the executive: Balance as of December 2018 was $1,789.82. Still outstanding is the $850 cheque to Kindred House, which has not cleared the bank.

The Edmonton Human Rights Committee wrote a cheque for $139.80 to the Edmonton RWC to pay back funds from 2018. Closing balance is $1079.62.

6. New Business:

6.1 Announcement of this year’s RWC Theme: Building our Voices Together

6.2 Guest Speaker – Tracy Bear: Tracy is an assistant professor of Native Studies / Art at the University of Alberta. She is also a member of the Unruly Women who have created the Walls to Bridges program, which promotes Indigenous education through collaboration with post-secondary institutions and the penal system. Kim has asked Tracy to assist the RWC with creating a Visual Artistic Journal (VAJ), which will empower our female members through art and perspective. The project will include meeting four times a year to work on and discuss the VAJ. April 21st has been determined for our first project day. Tracy may ask artist, Lana Whiskeyjack, to come and teach the group techniques to incorporate into the VAJ. Budget Allocation of $600

6.3 International Women’s Day (IWD) March 2019 and 2020:
2019 International Women’s Day Rally on March 10th put on by Women 4 Rights and Empowerment. The group is also holding a panel and dinner at Select on March 8th.
2020 International Women’s Day: Kim suggested we budget for $400 to be ready for the 2020 IWD.

6.4 Child Care Campaign 2019 – No More Fairytales:

Prairie’s Women’s Rep, Deb Kosteniuk, will be reaching out to discuss the next three-year cycle on the childcare campaign. Kim is waiting for guidance from Deb to bring to the Edmonton RWC. Budget Allocation of $400

6.5 Promotional Video for 2020 – Recruitment: Collect video clips and pictures as we are engaged in projects, campaigns and rallies to create a smashing video on the Edmonton RWC. Denise will take the lead on finding a videographer to put it all together. Budget Allocation of $400.

6.6 Recruitment Materials: Create a brochure for the Edmonton RWC that highlights the successes of the committee for distribution to PSAC members. Patty will work on brochure—to be reviewed by executive at next meeting. Budget Allocation of $300

6.7 Remembrance Day Wreath: Charmaine volunteered to attend and place the wreath. Budget Allocation of $145

6.8 Dec. 6th: Discussed on putting on a Domestic Violence Course/Training with PSAC. Budget Allocation of $400

6.9 AFL—Dec 6th Event: Six women to attend the event. Budget Allocation of $600

* Volunteer opportunities: YWCA Walk a Mile in Her Shoes as well as Terra House. More information required.

 

7. Meeting Minutes: When sending changes please reply to all on the initial email so everyone knows what is being asked / changed. For ease of editing please use action words for additions, deletions, corrections, etc.

8. Round table:
Denise: requested that anytime the committee writes a cheque that they also fill out the voucher sheet right away. Nina said she will make sure the vouchers are in the cabinet for the RWC.
Patty: Hoped that we could stick with the way we have been doing the round table so everyone could be heard. Denise agreed.
Charmaine: Passed
Kim: Will ensure that going forward Roundtable will be added. Thanked everyone for attending the meeting and looking forward to this year’s events and activities.
