Winnipeg & Area Human Rights Committee - Message on National Indigenous Peoples Day

Greetings and Happy Summer Solstice!

June 21 is the National Indigenous Peoples Day.

Please join the Winnipeg And Area Human Rights Committee to recognize, celebrate and appreciate the cultures and contributions of the First Nations, Inuit and Metis Indigenous Peoples of Canada. Some ways you can participate are attending various events taking place in your area, reading books written by Indigenous authors, and  support bills such as Bill C262, a Bill to urge Canadian Senators to pass the Implementation of the United Nations Declaration of  Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

As cited on the PSAC national website, “In his book, An Inconvenient Indian, Indigenous author Thomas King ponders what Canada would look like today if settlers had adopted an Indigenous world view instead of the European model of mercantilism, profit and excessive consumption”
