Lethbridge Area Council Rep
Prairie Region Council February 2020
Although it has only been a few months since my November 2019 report the Lethbridge and District Area Council (LDAC) has been involved in several notable activities.
In recognition of December 6th, the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women, the members of the LDAC were in attendance to Lethbridge’s first ever commemorative brunch, hosted by the Lethbridge Regional Women’s Committee. On December 10, International Human Rights Day, the LDAC helped to support Amnesty International Write for Rights letter writing event. In addition to a silent auction donation, several members of the committee were in attendance.
The Alberta Federation of Labour held an event in Lethbridge called Join the Resistance Town hall. The event was centered around the recent cuts to public services from the current UCP government. I was asked to sit on the panel as a labour leader alongside other provincial and private sector union leaders. The town hall was well received will over 150 people in attendance and several media outlets covering the event.
The committee held two meetings since the last reporting period one in which we discussed resolutions to the Prairie Region Triennial and the second was our AGM which included executive elections, brainstorming our 2020 plans and formulating our budget for the year. At that meeting we also reviewed and approved the 2019 reporting package that will be sent to PRC March 15th.
On a personal note, my husband, Kole, and I welcomed our baby girl, Kacey, into the world on Feb 4th. She arrived a few weeks early, but is healthy and thriving. Kole and I are doing well as we adjust to this new chapter in our lives.
