RWC Minutes, Oct 31 2019 – Special Meeting

The Meeting was called to order at 4:50 p.m.

 

1. Agenda: None: as it was a special, telephone, meeting to elect a delegate to the National Women’s Conference

4. New Business:

 

National Women’s Conference in Ottawa, April 3-5, 2020: We need to elect a delegate to attend as a representative of the Calgary RWC. Deb will already be attending as the Prairies Women’s Committee chair.

- Attendees were able to text or email their votes directly to Dolly, who ensured that everyone had her contact info.

- Nominations: Kirsten Strachey was nominated by Tabassom, seconded by Stephanie. Darlene Dyck-Campbell was nominated by Jenn, seconded by Kirsten.

 

  • Darlene spoke first: She indicated that she is passionate about Women’s issues, domestic abuse, and disability employment issues. She believes that women should be treated equally and with respect. She is a Union representative in her workplace, and is passionate about ensuring that women’s voices are heard. She is also a member of the CEIU ANWT Women’s Committee.
  • Kirsten spoke second: She indicated that she is a member of the Calgary RWC for the past 4 years, who calls in. She is engaged as a member and passionate about Women’s issues as well as connecting with the community. She has been a champion of the Jordan’s Principle resolution that was passed by the Women’s Caucus at the EO Conference, and then went to the National Convention. It was later passed by the AEC. Child Care is also a big issue for her, and she recently became a member of the AFL and is working on the child care campaign there.

 

- Elections were held, and Kirsten was elected as the Delegate. Darlene was asked to stand as Alternate and accepted.

 

Meeting was adjourned at 5:10 pm.
