PSAC Calgary Regional Women’s Committee Meeting

 MINUTES - January 11th, 2011

held at CalgaryRegional Office

1.         Meeting called to order at 5:50 pm.

2.         Review of agenda.

            Reviewed agenda.   

            Motion to approve agenda as read with the addition of Other - Correspondence.

3.         Review of meeting minutes from December 2nd, 2010.

           Reviewed minutes of meeting.  Committee members read minutes.

            Motion to approve minutes as amended.

 4.         Old Business

Sisters in Spirit funding was cut by the Conservative government even though Aboriginal women are still missing and continue to be murdered.  The government also threatened to cut the funding to the Native Women’s Association if they carry on a ‘Sisters in Spirit’ type of campaign.  Sylvia, Gina and Barb volunteered to draft a letter and will send it to Dolly by January 24, 2011and sent by January 28th, 2011.

 Christmas party was successful according to those that attended.

 PSAC Campaigns – teleconference on Women‘s issues on Jan 26th, 2011.  Dolly will update us on what happens at the next meeting.

 5.         Treasurer’s report

            Balance $1,423.32

            $1,000 earmarked for convention

            One meeting is left with $423.32 left in the budget

             Nicole moved that her report be accepted as tabled.

6.         Budget remaining for 2010

           Nicole motions that the RWC purchase 4 Herstory journals for $60 for a donation to IWD as prize.

 7.         Proposed 2011 RWC Budget

            Balance $1,423.32

            Nicole reviewed draft proposed budget.  Budget will be finalized once Dolly has teleconference and updates the RWC on any

            campaigns that we might focus on for 2011.

 8.         Resolution Deadline for Regional Convention       

             Deadline for resolutions is February 23, 2011.

The RWC must decide what we’d like to propose for resolutions to the Conference.  Keep       resolutions simple.  The resolution can be on any topic that the committee feels strongly bout.  Convention cycle is starting over.

Dolly provided two samples of resolutions that we can model the format of our resolutions on. 

PSAC Anti-bullying education and assignment of budget dollars to it

PSAC Anti-bullying collective bargaining language

Policy 23a and 23b should be amended to include anti-harassment and anti-bullying policy.

 Thursday, February 3rd proposed as resolution writing meeting at 5:30 pmto be held at the PSAC Calgary RO.

 9.         International Women’s Day March 8th, 2011(IWD)

              Letter has been signed that and will be sent out to locals.

 This year’s theme is 100 years of Inspiration with costumes according to decades.  Women will be dressed up according to a decade and they will reference what they were able to achieve and what they were still fighting for.  We can pick any decade with the exception of 1920.  The RWC would like to take the 1930s or the 1940s.

Next IWD planning meeting is being held on January 26th, 2011at 3 pmat the Women’s Centre in Calgaryon 1st Ave NEand Edmonton Trail.

            Letter was receivedfrom an interested party to attend the local RWC meeting who happened to be male.  As this person is not from this equity seeking group, Dolly read a draft e-mail to the inquiry as the mandate of the RWC is to provide a safe place for the equity group to meet.  Dolly will forward the draft to the inquiry to Gina for response.

    11.       Robyn Benson would like to have a joint meeting for the Area Council, Human Rights and the Regional Women’s Committee on Feb 16th, 2011at 5:30 pmat the PSAC Calgary RO.

     12.      Motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:20 pm.  The next meeting will take place on February 8th, 2011.
