4.         Old Business

Treasurer - Nicole received a PSAC local officer’s handbook for information to prepare budget.  Nicole and Joyce will meet at some point to discuss.

On Feb 8/09 Joyce attended a Women’s Action Hall meeting to discuss International Women’s Day.  Dolly has volunteered to be the second contact person and Catrina has volunteered to be the first contact person.

International Women’s Day - get a ticket for draws as you enter at the door.  RWC will donate cold cuts and cold plates as well as table cloths.  There will be a smudging ceremony and The Raging Grannies will perform (a musical group that does improve songs to encourage participation).  The Bread and Roses song will be sung with words provided and a Tea Dance (Circle dance) will be held as well.

5.         Suggested 2010 activities

a.         International Women’s Day

Robyn Benson suggested that some possible International Women’s Day activities may be:

Violence Against Women, Pay Equity, Universal Child Care

Allocate a budget of approximately $150 for International Women’s Day.

Joyce suggested looking into the potential of booking a larger facility than last year with a breakout room for children to play.  Some other suggested topics would be card trading, the Bill C-39 Long Gun Registry, pension facts for women

 b.          Labour Day BBQ - three committees will plan it together.  Last year $177 was allocated in the RWC budget for cake.  Robyn suggested handing out Dixiecups with the Think Public logo on them.  This topic should be discussed along with Area Council and the Human Rights Committee.  $200 will be allocated in this year’s budget for these costs.  It was also suggested to have a table on Child Care, Pay Equity and Think Public.

 c.           Dec 6 - partnered with Universityof Calgaryas has been done the past 3 years.  Sisters in Spirit Vigil in past years may be combined with work done at the Universityof Calgary.  A bag lunch was provided to this listening to speeches.  March for Murdered and Missing Women was another event that we had participated in in the past and plan to in the future.

d.          PSAC campaigns

e .         Allocate $200 for meals purchased for meetings

f .          Allocate $250 for PSAC campaigns

Robyn met Dec 7 & 8 in Winnipegand focused on National Child Care and Pay Equity.  She will forward the slide show from Susan Prentice.  AB is the leader in the Prairies in terms of Child Care.  Robyn commended the RWC for the good work done of behalf of the RWC and her suggestion was for a coalition group to work on the events for Dec 6th.  She also suggested that the RWC incorporate the PSAC campaigns into the various coalition group work (activities).

g.            Tools for School - allocate $50 and start now to prepare for September when school starts.  Edmontondoes this activity in conjunction with the United Wayand perhaps we could combine with the Calgary Stampeders for a game in August.  In Winnipeg, the activity was advertised on the radio and game attendees brought school supplies.  The Union Local was issued a challenge to bring school supplies also.  The event takes a lot of work but is very rewarding.
