Saskatoon and District Area Council General Meeting, March 13, 2012

Present:Karen Zoller, AGR; Evelyn Jackson, UNDE; Nicole Wurm, AGR; Rosemary Neufeld, AGR; Gary Cherneske, AGR; Jackie Nettleton, AGR; Nancy Johnson, UTE; and Louise Mardell, PSAC Regional Rep.

Conference call: Marianne Hladun, AGR; Carol Casey.

Meeting started at 5:25pm.

  • Due to a delayed posting for the AGM meeting, today’s meeting will be treated as a general meeting, and the AGM will be moved to Tuesday, March 27th.  

  • Nancy and Jackie will take the financial statement and paperwork to the Prairie Regional Committee meeting and give to the Prince Albert Area Council for auditing to be completed for the Saskatoon AGM.

  • Motion was put forward by Jackie to pay the PSAC Prairie Region the remainder owing ($1086.26) for a member to attend the 2011 Prairies Convention.  Evelyn moved motion, and Rosemary seconded.

  • Reviewed the March 1st Day of Action rally downtown Saskatoon at the Government building.  Marianne and Heather Longstaff were on Global news; about 20-30 people attended the rally; and photos are posted on the Agriculture Union website.

  • Marianne announced a PSAC national media event occurring Wednesday, March 21st on Parliament Hill.  Marianne will be a guest speaker to discuss why we need to maintain public services.

  • Group discussion surrounding government job cuts, severance packages, severance pay, and transition support.

  • Federal Budget Watch will take place at the Sheraton Cavalier, Saskatoon, on March29th at 2pm.  The Canadian Labour Congress will host the event which will be open to affiliates. Media will be present to receive local reactions. Posters will be coming out in the next couple of days.

  • Group discussion regarding the Third Choice campaign.

  • March 21st Day of Elimination of Discrimination.  Robyn Benson will be sending out a letter.  The University of Saskatchewan has a campaign called “Take the Pledge” (to end discrimination).  Interested individuals can go on their website to sign up.

  • Evelyn discussed the UNDE/youtube video regarding the Defence Construction Canada on the UNDE website.  It discusses the overspending that is currently being done by this Crown Corporation and how they are taking Public Service jobs away.  The link is:        http://www.unde-uedn.com/e/index/php/en/

  • June 6th Day of Caring (tentative date).  Volunteers needed.
