Calgary Area Council Meeting Minutes February 5, 2014

The meeting started promptly at 5:50 pm.

Old Business:
Br. Goertzen presented the October 3, 2013 and November 26, 2013 minutes for review & adoption. Minor corrections were made to the October minutes.

Treasurer Report:
Br. Chan presented the Financial Statement for January 1, 2013 – December 31, 2013
Opening Balance – January 1, 2013 $3,141.62
Closing Balance – December 31, 2013 $935.23
A Statement of Expenses details was provided along with more detailed verbal information.

New Business:
Reports by officers of the Council:
President Report - Br. Goertzen presented a written and noted some highlights over the 12 month period: Calgary Flood Relief, Bill C4, Conservative Convention, Municipal Election, Community/Affiliate support – UFCW strike, Day of Mourning, Public Service Week, Globalfest, Labour Day BBQ, and Promoting our Union – Maria Dunn. Br. Goertzen was involved with the JLP co-sponsor however that is currently going through a restructure. Br. Goertzen offered a thank you to each member of the Executive for their strong support and cooperation this very busy past year with the CAC.

Vice President Report - Br. Marianicz presented a verbal Vice President report for his activities; a written copy will follow. Activities participated included the Conservative Convention, Day of Mourning at City Hall with CDLC, Public Service Week and the Maria Dunn Concert.

2014 Action/Budget Plan
Br. Goertzen asked everyone to review the proposed Budget

- Day of Mourning
- Convention June 27-29
- Public Service Week
- Globalfest
- Labour Day BBQ
- Remembrance Day Wreath Laying
Br. Goertzen moved to accept the 2014 budget $2,750. M/S/C: Goertzen/Chan
Resolutions for Convention:
Regretably, none were received by CAC for consideration or approval - CLOSED
Elections:
Chair handed over to Br. Marianicz to handle the election process.
The CAC positions up for re-election for the next 2 year term are President and Secretary, along with PRC Rep, and Convention Delegates (with Alternates).
President – Sis. Parris nominated Br. Goertzen, seconded by Br. Chan. Acclaimed.
Secretary – Br. Goertzen nominated Sis Parris, seconded by Br. Chan. Acclaimed.
PRC Representative for CAC – Br. Goertzen nominated by Br. Chan, seconded by Sis Parris. Acclaimed
Regional Convention delegate CAC –
- Br. Chan nominated by Br. Goertzen, seconded by Sis Parris. Br. Chan accepted nomination.
- Sis Parris nominated by Br. Goertzen, seconded by Br. Marianicz. Sis Parris accepted nomination.
- Br. Marianicz nominated by Br. Goertzen, seconded by Sis Parris. Br. Marianicz accepted nomination.
A ballot election was conducted and Br. Chan was declared elected.
Alternate Delegate CAC –
- Br. Marianicz nominated by Br. Goertzen, seconded by Br. Chan. Br. Marianicz accepted nomination.
- Sis Parris nominated by Br. Goertzen, seconded by Br. Chan. Sis Parris accepted nomination.
An ballot election was conducted, Br. Marianicz was declared elected.
Alternate PRC Rep for CAC – Sis Parris nominated by Br. Goertzen, seconded by Br. Marianicz. Acclaimed.
Congratulations to everyone!
Round Table:
The Veterans Office closure campaign was discussed and materials were distributed.
Budget Watch is scheduled for February 11th at the CDLC office @ 1:00pm Br. Goertzen will be attending, but open invite is to everyone
Meeting adjourned at 8:15pm
Next meeting is scheduled for some time after March, April or May – date/time to be advised and posted to website
