Calgary Area Council Meeting Minutes
June 10, 2014

The meeting started promptly at 6:00 pm.
Br. Goertzen presented a revised order of Agenda for review and adoption. M/S/C Goertzen/Marianicz
Br. Goertzen presented the April 7, 2014 minutes for review & adoption. Amendments noted and a request will be made to repost. M/S/C: Goertzen/Marianicz.
Old Business:
Day of Mourning –
Br. Marianicz delivered a verbal report on his attendance. Br. Goertzen thanked Br. Marianicz for attending.
Public Service Week –
Templates of letters and stickers have been sent to locals. All locals can request stickers and posters or print them themselves.
GlobalFest –
PSAC is hosting the Human Rights Forum on August 15th. The forum has now been changed to discuss/debate the temporary foreign workers program. Speakers have been invited to the event. Information will be updated on the Globalfest site. We have lost the booth location we had last year, but since we have our own tent GF will provide an another spot. The tent is to be shared with UFCW affiliates. We will still host and provide support for the Citizenship Ceremony which is now to be held on Tuesday August 19th. The Calgary Committee’s RWC, HRC will coordinate with AC for volunteers. There also should be a follow up meeting about July 2-13th with the Committee’s for follow up on arrangements for booth & volunteers. A draft email letter will be sent for a callout to be sent to locals, with follow-up reminders, as well as announcing discount ticket information.
Discussed the games and giveaways budget for the five nights – prize wheel like last year; two gift baskets ($150) from 10,000 Villages and three United Nations Lego sets ($180). The cost will be covered by the budget allocated. MSC: Chan/Marianicz
Labour Day Barbecue –
We discussed the plans to participate in the annual event (Sept 2) at Olympic Plaza which included promotion materials and handouts. We will do much the same as for Globalfest with regard to the games – spinning wheel with questions. There will also try to arrange a bowling alley game that came about from the Mini School recently held. PSAC will provide cookies with the PSAC logo this year. Phil will confirm with CDLC at their planning committee tomorrow night. He will also confirm condiment requirements. Cost will be up to $350. MSC: Goertzen/Chan
Convention Resolutions –
Available on the website. AC delegate and other local delegates are encouraged to take a read to prepare themselves for Convention.
Round Table –
Nothing raised by attendees.
