May 20, 2015

In Attendance: Kim Haynes, Ben Lemon, Genevieve Babineau, Dragana Ristivojevic, Chantelle Favel-Rubenstahl, Marija Babic, Murray Pruden

  1. Call to Order at 5:34 pm
  2. Approval of previous meeting minutes- consensus.
  3. Women’s Committee, this coming Saturday May 23, the committee will be needing volunteers to help with the Community garden at the Mother Theresa Elementary school.  The start time will be at 8am.  Please bring your tools, shovels, rakes, wheel barrels & lawn chairs. The committee has about 10 volunteers and will be looking for more to help haul dirt & such for the garden.
  4. 19 minute campaign- contacting MP’s on current Bill C-59.  Murray said his MP was to phone him on the 19th however the MP did not keep his promise.  Chantel had sent information to Linda Duncan.

For June 19 campaign the Area Council needs to think of some ideas for the month.  Also the NAD will be needing event volunteers for National Aboriginal day at Canada Place. Contact Heather Poitras at heather.poitras@aandc.gc.ca

  1. Response from mail out/ emails to MLA candidates on provincial election- Ben got response the riding of Manning- Heather Sweet. Kim tried, but noticed municipalities & rural signage acknowledgement s to Jeff Johnston for his contributions to communities.

Suggestions for Federal Fall election- suggested that maybe we should follow CLC campaign. Digest the info to our locals & members.

  1. Placards- are they still a go? Kim doesn’t want her car damaged by vandals.  Suggested to put the idea on hold. Ben would like more Stop Harper signs.  Dragana suggested that these sign types may send the wrong message.
  2. We have $3700 in Budget.
  3. More follow up to 19 minute campaign- suggestion to invite MLA’s to come and speak at our events once decided. Bring ideas to the next meeting.  The focus to be on seniors, youth, veterans, aboriginals, the disabled.
  4. Nomination & election for Chair of the Edmonton Area Council.  Murray Pruden nominated Chantelle Favel-Rubenstahl as Chair- President. Nomination seconded by Kim Haynes.

Chantelle Favel-Rubenstahl accepts the nomination.

No other calls for nomination. Nomination closed.

All in favor of Chantelle Favel-Rubenstahl as President.  All approved. No sustained.

Chantelle Favel-Rubenstahl is now chair- President of the Edmonton Area Council for the remaining term.
