Leading up to the election, the PSAC Prairie Region hosted 2015 federal election candidates' forums across the Prairies. This was important initiative to provide our members, and the general public, with an opportunity to meet the candidates in certain ridings.
These forums were held in Winnipeg, Regina, Saskatoon, Edmonton and Lethbridge, with some halls filled to maximum capacity. Candidates from the NDP, Liberals, Green Party, Marxist-Leninist Party and the Libertarian Party attended their respective forums. The Conservative candidates declined to attend each of the five forums.
Questions were taken from those in attendance and varied in theme, including Treasury Board bargaining, the economy and the environment. Many members expressed frustration that the Conservative candidates were not in attendance to answer questions specific to the current government’s approach to collective bargaining.
Special thanks to the volunteers from PSAC Area Councils and Committees that worked hard to organize these events across the Prairies, as well as the members that came out to ask questions and make the forums a success.
In the final weeks of the election period, PSAC members are encouraged to get engaged in the political process. Take a look at the polls in your riding and make an informed decision on who you will cast your ballot for on October 19.
