Winnipeg AC AGM Minutes - Feb 25 2015

    - Add Marianne Hladun in at #9, thereby moving all other #’s down (or is it up?)

5.  Adoption of AGM Minutes of January 22, 2014

  • Moved by Gloria
  • Seconded by Darlene
  • Accepted by all

6.  Presidents Report presented by Gus (report attached).  Gus noted his highlighted comments about Gloria, his gratefulness to Gloria for her on-going support as she never waivers on stepping to the plate and volunteering to take the lead whenever the situation arises.  He also noted that Gloria had been nominated for the Prairie Voice Achievement Award (Mentor Category) but it was awarded to someone else.

    Gus moved to have his report accepted, Lorelei seconded, accepted by all.

7.  Vice Presidents Report – Steven said a big thank you to all, he is appreciative of the opportunity to learn all that he did, he will not be running at this time, and a heartfelt goodbye.  He may not be able to make it to the meetings but would still like to be called upon to volunteer.

8.  Treasurer Report – 2014 Financial Statement looked at

9.  Marianne Hladun spoke about the political climate.  She spoke of the current focus on:

  • Sick leave is not on the negotiating table
  • Defending public service
  • Getting rid of the Conservative government

She let us know that there is a Regional Action Plan and that there are monies available.  Ask for it!

She let us know of Political actions coming up, what we can do, and how we can help in this effort.

  • March 19 is a solidarity rally and March from the VIA Rail Station, down Broadway and back.  Robin Benson will be speaking.
  • The PSAC Convention is coming up in April
  • A telephone town hall March 16th (for Treasury Board members)
  • Webinar Wednesdays

We need to talk to everybody, not just our federal government fellow employees.

10.  Elections (as per WAC Bylaw 6 Section 2)

- Chair – Gus Mardli nominated by Darlene, seconded by Dawn, acclaimed
- Vice Chair – Greg Ballendyne nominated by Tanya, seconded by Gus, acclaimed
- Secretary – Darlene McClure nominated by Gloria, seconded by Dawn
- Dawn MacAulay nominated by Darlene, seconded by Tanya
Darlene declined, Dawn MacAulay acclaimed
- Treasurer – Darlene McClure nominated by Tanya, seconded by Dawn
    – Lorelei Topnik nominated by Greg, seconded by Laurie
       By vote, Lorelei is the Treasurer

Gloria moved to have the ballots destroyed, Gus seconded, all agreed.

11.  Social Justice Fund Projects for 2015 – Gus presented Ndinawe’s need for kitchen utensils to be able to prepare snacks and to teach the clients proper preparation of healthy snacks. 

  • We have re-iterated to them that it can’t just be a hand-out, it must be seed money that they can build upon.
  • They are to come up with a list of items that they are wanting to purchase, around $2,000.
  • Gloria and Gus will go and take pictures when they have purchased the items.
  • Gloria suggested a “garden tub” project so that they could have fresh produce.
  • Gloria suggested a “shopping” program to teach kids how to shop economically / healthy.

Marianne suggested talking to Charlotte Prokopow at the United Way to get an idea of any other agencies that could use our help (we still have $2,152 available).

12.  Political Actions  

Gus presented a Federal Action Plan Proposal that had a budget of about $5,500.  A lively discussion ensued.  It has been passed on to Marianne’s office for approval.

13.  Next meeting date is Thursday, March 12th.  Bring your ideas or send them to Gus.

14.  Adjournment at 7:15 p.m.  Moved by Darlene, seconded by Lorelei, accepted by all.
