27 April 2016

Attendees: Jeff Sexton (Chair), Glen Johnston, Martin Kaminski, Mike Weisberger, Roque Lacroix, Jennifer Grant, Susan Norman

Call to Order:

Br Sexton called the meeting to order at 5:16 pm

PSAC Statement of Harassment:

Read, agreed and Br Johnston appointed as harassment coordinator for the meeting

Previous Minutes:

Moved – Sr Grant, Sec – Br Kaminski. Accepted as amended

Agenda:

No additions, adopted as presented

Oath of Office:

Sr Grant for new position as Secretary

Treasurer’s Report:

Br Johnston reported a current balance of $193.10. Br Sexton confirmed cheques transferred to new Treasurer.

Agenda Items:

  • Bargaining updates for TB, CRA and Parks. All are still ongoing with CRA update that recent mtg with Commissioner sounded positive.
  • Multi-local meetings have been held in Winnipeg with upcoming plans for Brandon Area in May.
  • WMAC 2016 budget allocation was approved for $3000. Cheque for $2680 to be received from Regional Office shortly.

Points from the floor:

  • Boycott Public Service Week
  • Public Service Dental Plan – input call for upcoming bargaining in Sept. See website for details.
  • Winnipeg Area Council – May Day celebration May 1st at City Hall
  • Applications for the 2016 PSAC Scholarship program due June 24th.  14 scholarships offered for dependents and 3 for PSAC members.
  • BDLC Day of Mourning Apr 28th at City Hall @ 5:30 pm
  • Br Lacroix advised he would be moving to Winnipeg to continue his studies.
  • Sr Norman invited all to attend BDLC march and food drive on May 1st
  • Br Johnston advised that UNDE is also recognizing Day of Mourning in Shilo on Apr 28th
  • Sr Norman counseled that members really need to check into EVERYTHING before you retire. IE) compensation/benefits as well
  • Br Sexton discussed some of the horror stories with the new pay system, Phoenix. Hard to get assistance by phone, large turnover of staff and many untrained staff working in the pay office. If any members are without pay, emergency cheques can be issued.
  • Br Kaminski discussed the closure of the Aboriginal Centre in Winnipeg.
  • Br Weisgerber discussed issues Firefighters are encountering.
  • Sr Grant mentioned the call out for resolutions for the upcoming Health and Safety Conference due June 3rd, and the Regional Women’s Conference due June 1st.
  • Br Johnston discussed the 50th Anniversary year for UNDE and PSAC. Sr Norman advised that the BDLC would be celebrating 60 years as well. UNDE may hold a BBQ in May/June. WMAC will look at possible events in Sept to celebrate PSAC Anniversary.
