Apply to attend the Prairie School for Union Women

PSAC is proud to offer funding to a select number of union sisters to participate in the annual Prairie School for Union Women (PSUW), an intensive four days of learning and sharing to develop women’s personal and leadership skills and to build solidarity among women workers. Over the years, the highly acclaimed PSUW has been a progressive and inspirational event for women who want to take a more active role in their unions.

The Prairie Region Council (PRC) has set aside funds to establish a memorial scholarship in Sister Judy Shannon’s name to fund one participant’s expenses (registration, travel, loss of salary) per year.

Sister Judy Shannon passed away in November 2016 and had always been a passionate educator, dedicated activist and an exceptional regional education officer. She had been an advocate and facilitator for the PSUW for years. We are grateful to be able to honour her dedication to education and passion for the PSUW with the establisment of this annual scholarship in her name.

Additionally, for this year only, the PSAC Prairie Region education budget will provide subsidies for up to two active union sisters per province to attend this year’s PSUW. The PSAC subsidy will cover the cost of the early bird registration fee of $850 (which covers accommodation, meals and programming). Subsidy applicants will be expected to approach their Locals and, where applicable, Components, for additional financial support (i.e. transportation, loss of salary). Where possible, Locals are encouraged to financially support their union sisters in attending this year’s PSUW.
