News Release: WINNIPEG PSAC MEMBERS DELIVER “PHOENIX FIRST AID” FOR WORKERS BURNT BY PHOENIX

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

PSAC MEMBERS DELIVER “PHOENIX FIRST AID” FOR WORKERS BURNT BY PHOENIX

WINNIPEG - Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) members will gather this morning (Wednesday, February 28, 2018) at 280 Broadway in Winnipeg to protest the failed Phoenix Pay System from 7:00am to 9:00am. They will be distributing “Phoenix First Aid” materials to members about their rights if they have been burnt by Phoenix.

“Thousands of our members, and others in the federal public service, have been burnt by Phoenix,” said Marianne Hladun, Regional Executive Vice-President for the PSAC Prairie Region. “Federal public service workers deserve to be paid correctly and on time, every time, for the work they do.”

The federal government has been found to be in violation of law by failing to meet the implementation deadlines for four (4) national collective agreements that were signed in good faith by both PSAC bargaining teams and Treasury Board officials.

“Hundreds of thousands of federal public service workers have suffered the terrible consequences of the Phoenix debacle, but after two long years the government still doesn’t have a plan to end this nightmare,” said Hladun. “And while our pay system is in shambles, the federal public service is not. Our members continue to provide Canadians with the high quality public services they rely on despite everything they continue to endure."

Whether the government scraps Phoenix or fixes it, we need Prime Minister Trudeau to deliver:

  1. An immediate end to forcing workers who have been mistakenly overpaid, to pay back the gross amount –that’s more than they even received!
  2. A permanent increase of compensation advisors in both the departments and the pay centre to run the system and help our members with their pay problems.
  3. Damages for the many hardships Phoenix has caused these workers, including untold stress, and the time spent dealing with their pay problems.
