Minutes – Saskatoon Area Council AGM May 27, 2010

Participants: Nicole Wurm (Agriculture), Marianne Hladun (Agriculture), Karen Zoller (Agriculture), Jackie Nettleton (Agriculture), Clara Fabbro (UEW), Elena Beynon (Agriculture), Fay Nochowny (CSC) Nancy Johnson (UTE)

Guest: Raj Dhir (APSAR)

1. Acceptance of Agenda – To add changes to Bylaws

2. Review of March 18 2010 Minutes

3. Old Business:

(i) It was suggested that each local be asked for a contribution with the                         

     presentation from the Area Council

(ii) Parting gift for Carol

      $44.25 – Elena has the receipt

(iii) Day of Mourning:

       April 28, 2010 Nancy laid a wreath on behalf of the Area Council and       Regional Women’s Committee. Elena, Nicole, Karen, Jackie and Brenda Baergen attended the ceremony. Special thanks to Louise Mardell for making the wreath and the RWC for providing the funds for a new wreath.

4. New Business:

        (i) Summer Snack

                Nancy Johnson is arranging volunteers for Wednesdays on behalf of PSAC. When the poster comes out we will encourage locals to donate. Pea butter has been requested from Mountain Meadows Food Processing in Alberta as so many people are allergic to peanut butter. However it is much more expensive.

        (ii) Budget (Draft)

                - Summer Snack – Jackie will present as community work and send note to Robyn Benson for funding, emphasizing activities will have to be cut or no one will be able to attend convention.

                - Agriculture will give a $100.00 donation

                - donation to summer snack – Jackie will check with RWC

                - Labour Day BBQ (struck)

                - The $350.00 for convention June 2011 will require a subsidy.

        (iii) Fightback campaign

-          Louise and Patty are writing a report.

-          Proposal to Robyn to raise awareness utilizing you-tube, newspapers, SFL website, Facebook

- Discussion re. making a video indication that the financial crisis has hit the lowest paid workers in Canada. Caution: before started establish the purpose, the background. Noted that videos in eastern Canada are already established.
