Southern AB Geographical Rep
Prairie Region Council February 2015
Since the last PRC meeting I have regularly attended meetings of the Lethbridge Area Council, Regional women’s committee, the Lethbridge District Labour Council as well as my own local and have held a teleconference and face to face meeting with the PRC Communications Committee as well as the Leading Change course being held in Winnipeg at her end of January. In the PSAC Internal Investigations Committee Training in Edmonton in mid-January
In November 2014, I was also able to take part in the Childcare 2020 conference in Winnipeg with a delegation of PSAC activists. You can read my report on the Prairies Website.
I continue to work with the non-profit advocacy group Public Interest Alberta (PIA) as a board member and as chair of the PIA Childcare task force (advocating for a publicly funded accessible childcare system in Alberta that recognizes and fairly compensated the workforce) and on a more general pro Public Services Progressive taxation campaign called Alberta Could.
I been also working with REVP Marianne Hladun and PIA Executive Director, Bill Moore Killganon, towards a building a mutually beneficial relationship between PIA and PSAC; and I am proud to say that this year the PSAC is co-sponsoring the event with other labour and community groups and bringing Journalist Avi Lewis in to be the Key note speaker April 8 in Calgary and April 9 in Edmonton at the PIA Advocacy conference.
I participated in a committee, PRC, RO staff and REVP meeting in Calgary in which we as leaders in Southern Alberta developed plans to work together in the most effective way for the membership. At this meeting the PSAC Prairies Valentine was created. The verse, was written by Sister Deb Kosteniuk, Alternate Southern Geographical Rep and Chair of the Calgary Women’s committee.
I assisted with media coordination and organization for the Lethbridge and District Area Council film night in which both Sister Robyn Benson and Sister Marianne Hladun came to Lethbridge to introduce and host a discussion panel and screening of the Documentary film We Are Wisconsin, in January.
At the time of writing this report I am also working on a southern Alberta Geographic Rep newsletter that I hope to use to keep members in the Southern Alberta informed and connected to the PRC, the regional committees, councils and the REVP.
Respectfully Submitted,
Sherry Hunt,
Southern Alberta Geographic Representative, PRC, PSAC
