More than 500 labour activists, leaders and delegates gathered for the Alberta Federation of Labour Convention to celebrate the achievements of unions, hear from dozens of speakers, and help chart the direction for the future. During Convention, Shannan Little, a PSAC member from Agriculture Local 30048 in Lethbridge, was awarded with the International Women’s Day Award.

The 19th Annual AFL Kids’ Camp will be held August 5‐9 at Goldeye Centre near Nordegg on Goldeye Lake (see attached brochure below). The Mary Veilleux Memorial sponsorship was created to fund one child of PSAC members to attend the camp. If no such requests are received, the money will be sent to the Kids’ Camp s a donation. If you know of members in your local that might have children who would be interested, please pass this information along.

Every year, PSAC members invest in their communities by supporting their local United Way. Annual fundraising drives have kicked off across the Prairie Region and we’re asking Prairies members to reach into their pockets and continue their pattern of giving generously to an important community-focused charity.

Edmonton Catholic Schools Support Staff from CEP local 52A are on strike for negotiated wage increases and working hours. The employer, Edmonton Catholic School District, refuses to negotiate the second year of wages on a two-year contract and instead wants to put into place a wage re-opener provision. Staff is also facing the erosion of full time positions and increased workload. Workers have less time to meet the needs of students.

Issue:  UFCW 1118 on strike/lockout for fair wages and working hours. Actions Requested:  Support your sisters and brothers on the picket line at 127 Avenue and 76 Street in Edmonton. When:  Pickets will be going in shifts between Monday and Friday, 6 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.

 On March 22, PSAC members attended a rally in support and solidarity with members from the International International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers Union (IAM). Standing together for quality public services, PSAC and IAM members said "No!" to the government cuts and slashing of public services.
