Public Interest Alberta, the Parkland Institute, and other partner organizations will be hosting a provincial tour to help Albertans learn more about Alberta’s tax system and to hear from people what their priorities are for what Alberta Could do if we had a progressive income tax and fair corporate taxes.
Each year union-sponsored summer camps combine summer activities with educational activities. Children of trade unionists have an exciting opportunity to learn about unions, while making new friends and participating in fun, recreational summer activities such as hiking, canoeing, and swimming.The PSAC Prairie Region has historically funded at least one child to each of the respective Federation of Labour Kids Camps. As well as funding PSAC members’ children to the camp we anticipate that we will be able to cover the cost of a camp councilor.
Anti drilling activists in Lethbridge are breathing a collective sigh of relief after Calgary based Golden Key Oil withdrew its application for exploratory wells on the city’s west side.Thousands have been rallying against urban drilling within city limits for months, including many PSAC members in the community, who pitched in by attending demonstrations and collecting signatures. Activists collected more than 13,000 signatures.
Alberta Federation of Labour President Gil McGowan has called on the federal government to extend EI coverage for all those affected by floods in Southern Alberta. Only about 22% of unemployed Albertans are eligible for EI and the waiting period is 2 weeks.
