As a member of PSAC’s National Aboriginal People’s Circle (NAPC), she hears from First Nations organizations that have seen their budgets cut and from Aboriginal union members whose jobs are at risk.

PSAC sent members from across the country to participate in WorldPride 2014 events in Toronto and represent our union. Prairies members joined the PSAC delegation and participated in the WorldPride Human Rights Conference (June 25-27) and WorldPride Parade (June 29).

The PSAC and many other unions and social justice organizations are currently facing many challenges that are undermining labour rights, human rights and democracy. While austerity measures are provoking protests and resistance like never before, our movements continue to be fragmented, each fighting their own battles.

After centuries of resistance we are moving toward justice for Aboriginal peoples in Canada. Racism, discrimination and other forms of oppression remain but Aboriginal Day is not a time to dwell on all that is wrong – it’s a day to celebrate victories.
