In June, the United Way of Saskatoon and Area said goodbye and thank you to Marianne Hladun for six years of service to the organization and our community. Marianne served as a United Way board member from June 2006 – June 2012. We were not able to thank Marianne publicly at the United Way AGM as she was already hard at work in Winnipeg as Regional Executive Vice-President for the PSAC Prairie Region.
Marianne was an active and committed United Way of Saskatoon and Area board member serving on several important committees including the Community Investment Committee. Marianne put in many hours overseeing where the United Way would invest donor dollars to ensure our organization had the most positive impact on the most pressing issues in our community; ensuring those most vulnerable in our community were being helped by United Way.
She also encouraged other union members and co-workers to get involved in the United Way of Saskatoon and Area. She was the employee campaign chair at her work place and while leading her colleagues in this endeavor helped raise thousands of dollars for United Way. Her workplace was consistently a top performer in dollars raised for United Way. Marianne was a big part of this success.
In 2003, United Way of Saskatoon and Area and the Saskatoon and District Labour Council were honoured to present Marianne with the Labour Community Service Award – an annual award recognizing and honouring a trade unionist who has demonstrated outstanding service and dedication to our community through volunteer work.
Marianne’s commitment AND humour and comarderie will be missed at the United Way of Saskatoon and Area. But we know she will continue giving back in her new community. Saskatoon’s loss is Winnipeg's gain!
Thank you Marianne!
