Winnipeg HRC Minutes (March 2012)

1. Call Meeting to Order 5:15 pm

2. February 2012 minutes were read, and approved with the change to remove “Annual General Meeting” from the meeting header.
Sister McClure moved to change the minutes, Brother Cabak motioned, Brother Mardli Seconded.

3. Election of Officers:

Secretary: Two nominations for the position of Secretary – Katie Hoskins and Dawn MacAulay. A vote was put to the members present and Sister Hoskins was named Secretary.
Brother Mardli suggested to destroy the ballots; Brother Cabak motioned, Sister Dune Seconded.
All nominations that accepted the positions were sworn in.

Action: Sister Dune and Brother Cabak will need to go to Crosstown Civic Credit Union in order to set up the signing authorities for the bank account.

4. 2012 HRC Budget

Distributed to members at meeting.

5. Equity Related Events and News:

Equity Days distributed to members at meeting, document outlines equity days the Alliance is mandated to commemorate.

PRIDE! Winnipeg May 25th-June 3rd:
Use April meeting to brainstorm and plan for May 15th meeting
May 15th HRC Meeting will host a speaker from the Rainbow Resource Centre.

Action: Brother Gagné to call the centre to have this arranged.

6. Planning

Schedule of 2012 Meetings & Plans:

Tuesday, April 17, 2012 – Review and discuss Human Rights Resolutions going to Convention
Tuesday, May 15, 2012 – Speaker from the Rainbow Resource Centre
Tuesday, June 19, 2012 – Outgoing Event
Tuesday, September 18, 2012 – Business
Tuesday, October 16, 2012 – Speaker on Mental Heath/Invisible Disabilities
Tuesday, November 20, 2012 – Political Event for Transgender Day of Remembrance

Action Items:
Brother Sparks to investigate what resolutions to review and discuss for April 17th meeting.
Sister Mohammed to research possible ideas for June 19th event.

7. Funding Request

Funding request was made to the committee to fund a member’s daughter for a school trip to Ghuana, Africa to research laws related to child labour and the comparison to Canadian laws as well as to aid children into attending school. A blog will be kept to document the trip, if you wish to follow the blog please speak with Brother Sparks.

A hand vote was put to the members present and it was agreed to fund the Guana trip. Sister Mohammed moved to fund an amount of $200.00, Brother Danis Seconded.

8. Adjournment of meeting 6:50 pm, next meeting is April 17, 2012
