Winnipeg PSAC member volunteers in Guatemala with Social Justice Fund

From March 21 - April 4 PSAC members participated in PSAC's Social Justice Fund delegation to Guatemala. They supported the efforts of grassroots organizations to improve livelihoods of Mayan campesinos in Guatemala through initiatives based on social justice and fair trade.

Jen Botincan, a PSAC/UNDE member from Winnipeg, was selected to participate in this opportunity, which sent participants to Quixayá, San Lucas Toliman, Solola, located in the highlands to the east of Lake Atitlan.

Participants worked together to build schools and community centres, which are essential for the education of children and will also be used for community meetings. Education is extremely important because citizens with education and training can become allies to social justice groups working on the ground and help transform the reality of communities in Guatemala.

Jen wrote a series of blog entries about her experiences. Follow her updates right here on the PSAC Prairie Region website.
