Each year on Labour Day we celebrate the achievements of all workers across Canada.
This year, let’s honour the thousands of hardworking PSAC members who have been affected by the federal government’s reckless slash and burn agenda. As of May 31, 21,734 of our members in 58 departments have received notices saying they could lose their jobs, including 2,711 from the Prairie Region.
Thousands of positions have been lost, forcing members to retrain, relocate, or reapply for their own positions, pitting colleagues against each other. Now, Tony Clement plans to introduce sector-wide performance measures and whittle away at sick leave in a continued attack on our members.
This Labour Day, as you celebrate with family and friends, celebrate the contributions that PSAC members make every day, despite the increasingly hostile work environments. This includes our members working for the federal government, as well as those working at the universities, airports and other separate employers. We all contribute to our communities and we are all affected by the cuts.
I encourage you to take the opportunity to attend one of the Labour Day events in your area. See the event listing below for more information.
