Dear Sisters and Brothers:
Nearly one in ten people are living with a disability and on December 3, 2011 – International Day of Persons with Disabilities – we stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters to advocate for their right to live and work in society with dignity, autonomy and equality.
Persons with disabilities, including persons with mental health disabilities, encounter many disadvantages in their societies and are often subjected to stigma and discrimination.
That is why we must join together, brothers and sisters, to take action against discrimination and do what we can to ensure that our workplaces and our communities are barrier free and free from discrimination.
PSAC recently released a new brochure titled “Mental health at work: why it matters” to assist members and representatives to better deal with mental health issues in the workplace. Contact your regional office to request copies, and visit the Canadian Network on Disability and Development to learn more about how you can engage our government on disability and development issues.
In Solidarity,
