REVP Letter: IWD 2012

Dear Sisters and Brothers:

International Women's Day represents nearly a century of struggle for the equality of women around the world.

This year for March 8, sisters in the PSAC are fighting back against the Conservative government’s agenda to cut jobs and eliminate deficit, and moving forward to ensure our rights for the future.

Your regional office has distributed “Fighting back. Moving forward.” posters, women’s rights stickers, and “Defend Women’s Equality” door hangers and posters. PSAC has also produced a new informational booklet detailing how job cuts hurt women. I encourage you to share these materials within your local.

Later this month, I’ll be attending the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, the principal global policy-making body on women’s equality at the United Nations. The Canadian labour delegates will be participating in important discussions, such as financing the gender equality and empowerment of women, but also strategizing how we can pressure federal policy makers.

You, too, can be a part of these discussions by following the official blog. You can also make a difference by talking with women in your workplace and sharing your experiences and frustrations.

Together, we can stand up against Harper’s attacks on women’s equality and the public services that are so important to the safety and well being of our families and our communities.

In Solidarity,

Robyn Benson
