REVP Letter: Labour Day 2011

Dear Sisters & Brothers,

Labour Day is a chance to recognize and honour the contributions of all workers who struggle to make a fair wage and create a meaningful society.

On August 22, we lost a friend and strong ally in Jack Layton, who championed workers’ rights, as well as socially responsible policies. Over the years, Jack’s advocacy for worker's rights, equal marriage, universal health care, public transportation and affordable housing distinguished him as a principled politician and a great Canadian.

Now, we must take it upon ourselves to continue the work that Jack dedicated his life to. We must continue to fightto protect our workplace and economic rights and work tirelessly to defeat governments that seek to undermine working people and our communities.

Join me as we celebrate the contributions of workers and their unions, and recognize and pay tribute to Jack Layton’s legacy.
