Dear Brothers & Sisters,
On March 21, the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, we will stand up against racism, discrimination and the inequalities that keep us, as a society, from progressing.
In April 2011, PSAC activists from racially visible communities across Canada gathered to network, strategize and collectively advance important political and workplace issues. This conference offered an excellent opportunity for delegates to discuss how to break down barriers and build bridges, and the result was a strong sense of unity.
Now, looking ahead, we will see many important resolutions go to the PSAC 16th Triennial Convention in May regarding employment equity, racism, and research and outreach aimed at equal rights and respect for racially visible persons.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights affirms, “All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights”. Together, on this day and every day going forward, we must dedicate ourselves to promote and protect this ideal. We must reaffirm our commitment to equality and work together to build a stronger union and a better world.
A year later, the theme of the 2011 PSAC Racially Visible Conference still holds true: we are “United, Empowered, Fearless, and Ready for Action!”
In Solidarity,
Robyn Benson
