REVP Letter: National Aboriginal Day 2012

Dear Sisters & Brothers,

Each year on June 21, National Aboriginal Day, we pay tribute to the cultures and achievements of the First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples of Canada.

This year in the Prairie Region, we have even more reason to celebrate with the creation of the Northern Saskatchewan Regional Aboriginal Peoples’ Circle, the first of its kind in the Prairies. Since it’s inception in 2003, NAPC has been fighting for Aboriginal rights. Now, we have our own Prairies Circle to continue the important work with communities in Northern Saskatchewan and across the Prairie Region.

We are also preparing for “Unionism On Turtle Island,” a PSAC Prairies education course for members to learn more about the issues facing Aboriginal workers. Participants will explore the history of oppression and resistance, Aboriginal issues at the bargaining table, creating a representative workforce, and opening the union to Aboriginal activists. Visit the Prairies website to apply for this exciting course.

To learn more, visit PSAC's campaign page: Justice for Aboriginal People's – It's Time and watch the video made by PSAC members, explaining why they “can't just get over” the colonialism and discrimination that Aboriginal Peoples continue to face every day.

In Solidarity,
